Mess Around – Melbourne March 28

Hello to my blog followers, and in particular to a lady in Canada who left a message after yesterday’s blog. I am chuffed to think that someone on the other side of the planet is reading this blog – so I’d like to start tonight’s blog with a photo I took of the audience waving to Cindy in Canada:

The gap in the front row is where David was sitting. David is a long term fan of mine who I immediately recognised. He is my favourite hippy teacher, although I did mention that he looked like Santa on holidays. David told me that he did work as Santa for a few years, but before he said anything else I searched the room for children – to explain to them why Santa is in my audience, and how someone could “work as Santa”.

That’s when I found Molly, a twelve year old, originally from Canada. (What is it with Canadians tonight?)

Molly was confident, cool, well spoken, and upfront, so I invited her to the stage. She was also very funny. I asked her to sit with David, took a photo, tweeted it, and asked for captions:

Well done tweeters, every one of those got a massive laugh, and a few got rounds of applause.

I asked young Molly if she had ever been on stage before, she said she had sung opera at school but would rather be doing comedy. Then I got an idea.

But first I re-introduced Chris Hughes. Briefly, Chris is an IT Manager that I am trying to make more famous than Shiloh Jolie Pitt by the end of the Festival. Chris is only taking part in it if we also raise money for The Simon Rhoden Foundation, which helps people with cystic fibrosis. Chris has already promised to strip to a pair of bicycle shorts on stage at Federation Square if we raise $20,000. Mark the butcher will cook a barbeque on the night, and Steve the marketing man is supplying the lycra.

I then asked Molly if she would like to make her stage debut by MC’ing Chris’ strip. She said I had to ask her mother, who shouted “do it, do it, do it”

So – if we raise $20,000 Chris will strip at Fed Square as Mark cooks a barbie, Steve supplies lycra and Molly MC’s.

But how do we make Chris famous by then? Simple – with a great poster, designed by another Steve from last night’s audience. Steve brought down two versions, a straight one and a raunchy one. Guess which one was the audience favourite? Yes, the raunchy one.

I will upload the poster tomorrow night to this site – then the task is your to print one (or more) off, and stick them up in your local area. Including internationally. In fact, I suggested that anyone reading this blog overseas should stick a poster of Chris in a prominent position, (preferably in front of a local landmark) take a photo, and send it to me at info@adamhills.com.au.

Thanks Molly, it was my pleasure.

I have a few nights of no shows now while we film a few episodes of Spicks and Specks, so there won’t be another show til Friday. In the meantime stay tuned to this blog where tomorrow night will see the great unveiling of the Chris Hughes poster; and make sure you send the Youtube link to as many people as you can. In fact, if you do watch the video yourself, leave a comment letting me know where you are in the world. It’d be interesting to see how far this phenomenon can stretch.

Of course a huge thanks goes to Chris for being a great sport throughout all of this. We couldn’t do it without him.
