Hello
It’s kinda hard to write the blog for tonight’s show because it will sound quite tame, and yet it went a bit mad.
Basically here goes: I arrived in Andover but didn’t get a chance to eat before the show. The theatre cafe was closed, and I couldn’t find a takeaway that delivered. So I went on stage, met a guy in the crowd whose wife was pregnant, then ordered pizzas for me and the audience.
That’s basically it.
Thirty minutes later the pizzas arrived, delivered by a man called Bob, who seemed to have his own comedy routine worked out, and we had a photo taken together:
I had to call an interval early so we could eat while the pizzas were hot, then I came back and did the rest of the show.
I know it doesn’t sound like much, so I have asked the audience to leave their endorsements of the show as comments on this blog. If we don’t get any, then I’ll know I was the only one having fun.
I genuinely had one of the most enjoyable shows of my life though, mainly thanks to the crowd who were truly amazing and made me feel so welcome. I was also more than a little chuffed that a man by the name of Reg Presley came to the show. Reg is the lead singer of a band called The Troggs, who sang such hits as “With A Girl Like You”, “Wild Thing” and the original version of “Love Is All Around”. I met him a few weeks ago during a filming, and organised tickets for him and his lovely wife Brenda.
Not only did Reg come backstage to tell me how much he enjoyed the show, he and Brenda gave me a lift home. At one point we couldn’t get out of the carpark, and all I could think was “I’m stuck in a carpark with the guy that sang Wild Thing”. Brilliant.
That’s all for tonight. I’ll leave you in the hands of whoever chooses to leave a comment.
Yesterday it was Gail Porter in Edinburgh, tonight it was Reg Presley in Andover. Tomorrow night is Barton-Upon-Humber, where I’m half expecting another celeb to turn up. Adam Ant perhaps?
See ya soon
Adam

20.11.2009 at 10:35I was in the audience in Andover tonight and this was one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. Adam was so fantastic and we (the audience) loved him. Hopefully he will come back again soon and get us more pizza!
Phamie
20.11.2009 at 10:40I was there and can confirm that the man is a comedy genius and bought us all pizza (the two are in no way connected and I did not laugh harder after the interval just because he fed us).
He was like Jesus, turning 4 pizzas (no anchovies) and some garlic bread into a feast for the whole audience.
Adam – thank you so much for the pizza, (I hadn’t had any dinner either) it was so lovely to meet you afterwards with Reg and thank you for making me laugh so much my tummy ached and a little bit of wee come out.
Genius.

20.11.2009 at 10:43Pizzas were still hot when we ate them =)
Show was amazing, I laughed pretty much the whole way through, and even found myself singing along to Bon Jovi, Aha, New World and several others!
Well worth the time, this was the first live comedy act I’ve been to, but such a cracker!

20.11.2009 at 10:46My endorsement:
It WAS an amazing gig. Yup.

20.11.2009 at 11:09Prosthetics, pregnancy, prostates and yes, Pizza.
A truly great & unique evening.
Ps. Good luck with fatherhood & the Ashes.
I’m just searching YouTube for the Chinese swimmer before going to bed – too much Pizza always keeps me up….
Hugh.

20.11.2009 at 18:52Yep, a great way to spend a Thursday evening – Pizza and live comedy, it doesn’t get any better than that.
Thanks for making it a truly memorable one of a kind gig – I felt properly inflated when I left.
Lindsey
20.11.2009 at 19:05A MASSIVE thank you for a HILARIOUS evening! It was definitely one of the best comedy nights I’ve ever been to. We hope to see you again soon.
Lindsey
P.S. Hope you liked the chocolate bar!

20.11.2009 at 19:10One of the best, if not the best stand-up gig, I’ve been to. I feel positively inflated.
Rob
20.11.2009 at 19:11Adam’s show was not only brilliantly funny, but heart-warming and poignant too. Yep, that’s another posh word that the Andover audience know!
Through some kind of comedy magic, Adam created an unusual bond in the room, and not just because of him buying us all pizza! His philosophy of life is simple yet really appealing and I’m sure it’ll stick in the minds of the people who hear it, myself included.
This was definitely one of the best comedy nights I’ve ever been to. I felt “inflated” and I’m looking forward to “inflating” other too by telling them about the show.
Rob
20.11.2009 at 19:13Oh and my wife Lindsey and I hope you enoyed the chocolate bar pudding!
Olivia
20.11.2009 at 19:16I was there last night with my family and it was awesome! Thanks for the pizza Adam! You were definitely not the only person having a ball!
I swear it was Paul Mccartney not Bob Dylan who released that Starbucks only album thought…? Ahh well
Cheers! Amazing gig!

20.11.2009 at 19:28He’s just being modest; it was mayhem and it was hilarious! We came along not knowing what to expect but can honestly say we haven’t laughed so much in years. Thanks for a great night Adam and thanks for the pizza… and don’t forget the garlic bread.

20.11.2009 at 19:46One of the funniest and most enjoyable evenings that Andover has ever seen! We often go to the comedy events at The Lights, and this was the best ever. Laugh out loud funny and all in such a easy style. More like a party than a show. If you are thinking of seeing Adam “in the flesh”, stop thinking and just go, you will not regret it.
By the way, the pizza looked and smelt lovely. Shame the students got there first! Think we should introduce pizza passes for those of senior years with prostate problems!!
Thanks for a great night Adam. Come back soon and have a beer mate.
Clare
20.11.2009 at 19:55A brilliant night, great comedy, aided by a slice of pizza at the interval – fab!
Ashley
20.11.2009 at 20:07Funniest live show i have ever seen u were a great performer and had the audience laughing all night. Will definetley be looking out for your next tour!
Steve and Jackie
20.11.2009 at 20:22Really great night out and worth the 120 mile round trip to see Adam. I was the one that requested ‘no anchovies’ and not only didn’t I get the anchovies I missed out on the pizza as well – I was queing to buy Adam a drink !!
Really great to a see a performer who is willing to abandon his act to go with the flow of the night.
Adam – one tip ! Bring more money next time, I think 4 pizzas was pushing it a bit to spread around Andover.
Best of luck for the rest of the tour from me, the wife and the prostate.
Mandy
20.11.2009 at 20:27Previously on Adam Hills ….. (sorry but I’m hearing Jack do the voice over !)
An introduction to your own introduction!!
Sending someone out so you can ask questions about their sister!
Playing what decade did you grow up in!
…. And YES I can confirm due to randomness & you not having food you asked an audience member to order pizza & Bob the delivery guy had his ‘5 minutes’ on stage ….. but yet all I could concentrate on was the steam rising off the pizza boxes !!!
Unfortunately I didn’t have any pizza as sometimes being a veggie who’s allergic to mushrooms isn’t that easy !!
I would totally come to see another show, even if you did make sure you ate first.
I laughed so much my face hurt.
This may be one of those times when the phrase ‘you had to be there’ really applies and Mr Hills I truly am glad I was there ……. Oh hope you enjoyed your ‘pudding’

20.11.2009 at 20:28Funny from the start (and before the start!) to finish. One of the best comedians I have ever seen, naturally funny and brilliant off the cuff. The best gig ever!
Ben
20.11.2009 at 20:29I was there too, and it was an absolutely fantastic show! Adam, you are a genius! Hope to see you back in Andover again soon, I’ll keep an eye out for you pulling teenager’s jeans up and proclaiming how good your poo was! Thank you again Adam, it was epic!
Peter Webster
20.11.2009 at 21:09Adam
Thank you . I am still smiling.
Glad you got out of the car-park… obviously a case of
WILD THING I THINK YOU’VE MOVED ME
John
20.11.2009 at 21:12As Hugh says ‘a truly unique evening’ and one that will live long in the memory.
It felt like I’d gone out with a really funny, yet very so slightly disturbed mate (I mean, clown and his dad as a metaphor for the global credit crunch) and didn’t go to a show at all.
I could not tell you a joke he told, yet could not stop laughing.
Belting night
Steve R
20.11.2009 at 21:20Great show, come back soon! comedy genius
James and Claire
20.11.2009 at 21:31We had a great time … great comedy, Reg Presley and free pizza … who could ask for more! Come back to Andove soon and bring pizza again :o)
Great show Adam
John Blair
20.11.2009 at 22:04I didn’t ever think I would go to Andover for what was honestly nothing less than a face achingly funny, touching, friendly and genuine performance. I really did want to go down the pub for a few jars afterwards and carry on the conversation, who ever suggested the Mills needs shooting how could anyone take a star in there! It will be remembered and talked about for a long time, see you again shame it had to finish.!!!!!!!
Beth
20.11.2009 at 22:29I’m incredibly jealous – this sounds like it was one helluva show!
Next time you’re in Colchester or Norwich, I shall be there expecting pizza, Mr Hills.
Alison Holden
20.11.2009 at 23:39Previously in Andover…
The precedent was set… our appetite for comedy was sated, luckily without anchovies but with garlic bread on the side. 🙂
Thanks for a great night…
If needing a washing machine in Gent, email, if not back there myself, my flatmate knows how it works. 🙂
Have a great rest of your travels and safe home to your girl and plus one in the making 🙂
Ali 🙂
Dan
21.11.2009 at 00:02Me and 3 mates thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and felt so inflated that we had to have a few pints in town afterwards!
Truly an excellent night and definately the most memorable I have ever had at the lights. Please come back soon.
Nev
21.11.2009 at 01:31Superb comedy – i did not have any pizza or garlic bread – which in no way stopped the show being very funny indeed. I really liked the spread of topics too – keep up the good work!!
Nev and Jacq
Ian & Carrie
21.11.2009 at 01:34We were also privaliged to be there last night, as frequent lights attendees, we have had some brilliant evenings there, but this was the best!
We feel sorry for anyone who missed it, and for the next comedian due here – they have a hard act to follow.
Come back soon
Cat
21.11.2009 at 02:04Thank you Adam for a rip-roaring night of comedy… the pizza was the icing on the cake…. but remember NO PINEAPPLE next time!
Come back very soon… I’m intrigued what will happen next time… it was all so very random….
LInda Webster
21.11.2009 at 02:46A fantastic night – I’m a keen comedy fan and go to lots of comedy gigs but last night I laughed more than I have done for ages. You deserve the award you mentioned and also an entry in the ‘Good Food Guide’
A fan for life.
P.S. Not related to Peter Webster – just his ex-wife!

21.11.2009 at 03:09Wow what a night!!! laughed so much my face is still aching now. Words really don’t do this show justice, I think you just had to be there and if you weren’t well hey you just went and missed the best thing to hit Andover. Hopefully you will make a return to the Lights and this time pizza’s on us ( pudding included!!!)
Ros
21.11.2009 at 03:18Wow, still inflated! The most fun I have had out of bed! This was the best comedy event I have ever attended and I feel really privileged. You had to be there…! Thank you so much, Adam.
Carys
21.11.2009 at 03:24A hilarious night, the most inflating event I’ve ever been to! Adam, you are an amazing comedian, pizza or no pizza!
Ali
21.11.2009 at 03:59Disappointed about there being “no anchovies”
Surreal night and utterly fantastic!. It takes a very brave man to ask an audience who wants pizza! Don’t think I’ll ever experience such a funny evening at the Lights. Look forward to the party next time you are in town
wayne and lorraine
21.11.2009 at 04:09what a night. how do you describe an evening like that to people without being measured up for a straight jacket.
we first saw you on mock the week and thought yeah this adam hills is quite funny. what an understatment that turned out to be.
you inflated every person in the room with your humour and warmth.
next time you come to andover we will take you out for a meal before the show, our treat.
thanks again for a wonderful night.
Irene
21.11.2009 at 04:34I am actually one of the volunteers at The Lights, and really appreciated Adam thanking the staff. Not many acts do that. By the way, I am the one who offered you a lift. Glad Reg got you back to the The Quality Inn safely (I can’t believe they don’t do room service)!! I bet you and Reg had a few drinks at the bar!!
Anyway great show, I have told everyone I have seen about it. Totally random and off the cuff. Loved it from start to finish, even without the pizza, but that made it extra topping -oops I mean special!!. I hope every audience doesn’t expect pizza now, otherwise you will need to put your rates up!

21.11.2009 at 04:54I’ve been to many a comedy night at the Lights in Andover and paid lots more money for the pleasure but last night Adam Hills was outstanding. I was probably one of the few that didn’t get a slice of his pizza but what a funny guy. I left the theater thinking that everyone in the audience should start some sort of Adam Hills first time at the Lights fan club because it was truly amazing. Thanks for coming Adam and best wishes for the rest of the tour. Come back and see us again some time. Top bloke.
Dave & Caroline
21.11.2009 at 05:04Seen you Mocking the Week and now in the flesh and prosthetic!! Brilliant and yes Michael Macintyre does walk like that. It was such and educational and informative evening, still practising sign language!! and Australian chants!!
Great night of fantastic comedy, fully sated and inflated!! Come back soon and we will spread the word.
Misha
21.11.2009 at 05:10I’m noticing a pizza theme here, you bought us pizza at the 24 hour show.
Allison & Gary Neill
21.11.2009 at 05:11What a fantastic night from start to finish. We have not belly laughed like that for soooooo long. The interaction with the audience was out of this world. If anyone can adlib like Adam did last night then they are truly great comedians.
Didn’t have any pizza but that did not stop us have a great night out. Even managed to pull up a teenagers trousers as we left!!!!!!
If you missed last night you missed a fantastic performer. Look forward to seeing him again
Allison & Gary Neill
21.11.2009 at 05:20What a great show from start to finish, we have not belly laughed like that for soooooo long. If anyone can adlid like Adam did last night they are truly great performers.
The interaction with the audience was priceless, including his slightly ropey Scottish accents.
Didn’t have any pizza but that did not spoil a fantastic night. We even tried to pull up a teenagers trouser when we left!!!!!!!
Don’t just think about going to see him, JUST DO IT.
Lesley as of Frank Holland
21.11.2009 at 07:14Thank you Adam, what a great show !!!! My face is still aching almost 24 hours later. Haven’t laughed so much since I don’t know when??? I’ve never heard such a vocal British crowd, felt more like a private party…….truely brilliant!!!
Hilary
21.11.2009 at 07:44Adam , the pizza, the sign language and grammar lessons , a brilliant night was had by all!
On a personal level, i just wanted you to know that your story and reasoning of inflating really touched me, After years of health issues, you really made me smile on the inside and everytime i think of you or hear your name i will inflate, thank you for that gift! You are an inflater and hopefully someday i can do that for someone too! x
Suzy
21.11.2009 at 08:09Brilliant comedy and pizza, can’t ask for a better night out! Laughed so much my face hurt!

21.11.2009 at 09:15Thanks for coming to Andover Mr Hills you put on a great preformance and i will definatly be coming to see another one of your shows wether you like it or not.

21.11.2009 at 12:38Adam, thanks for a great show and some yummy pizza. It was a unique and amazing experience where we all truly Jon Bonded.
True, we learnt a little more about a prostate exam than we probably wanted, but your message was touching. We will spread the word about ‘inflating’ and what a great comedian you are. Come back soon!
Dave & Verity
22.11.2009 at 05:47Adam kept insiting he did have a show, but we never saw it. We did see a brilliant, brilliant comedian going with the flow and adapting his act to suit the mood of the audience that night, showing true comic genius in the process. I mean, who knows, another night he might have ordered pizzas WITH anchovies and pineapple, if that was what the crowd wanted.
Brilliant! Come back soon, Adam, we’ll be first in line for tickets.
(But … um …. could we have chinese next time, please? We’ll make sure we have a number with us)
🙂
Andrew Bailey
22.11.2009 at 05:50Thought Al Murray was funnier, but thanks for the pizza, anyway.
😉
Daniel (the 21 yr old and who ordered pizza) lol
22.11.2009 at 22:33I NEVER LAUGHED SO HARD YET!!! The night was amazing and Adam was beyond epic. He’s a legend of this generation, and if he books back at the lights next year, I can safely say, it won’t be soon enough. I can’t wait for his return visit as I’ll probably laugh so hard that I cry. lol. We laughed, we cried and a great time was had by all. Except for that Andrew Bailey of course. sounds to me like he wasn’t smiling. I’ll stop talking now as you must be bored of hearing me. So I’ll finish by saying, Adam, you rock, Bob, well done on the pizzas, next time I’ll have some, and to those who didn’t come, get a ticket. seriously. Take it easy people. C’ya *waves*
Sue, Kevin & Mathew Orchard
22.11.2009 at 22:56What a great night. I’ve never seen anyone heckled before they’ve even come on stage. The night was mad and you really had to be there to appreciate the rapport (another fancy word known inhabitants of Andover) between Adam and the audience.
We had a real belly laugh evening and would travel miles to see you again.
Neil
22.11.2009 at 23:29Brilliant show! Very funny, what a great bloke as well. If you are reading these blogs whilst deciding whether to book tickets to see him, don’t waste time, book now!
In fact, as he’s an Aussie, definately see him soon whilst we still hold the Ashes, don’t give him the opportunity for extra material!!!!
Adam, come back to Andover soon.
claire (bobs daughter)
23.11.2009 at 03:00i wasnt there at the show, but i could well imagine that my dad would have a say on stage and try to be funny with his pizza boxes
The Real Andrew Bailey!!!
23.11.2009 at 05:33Looks like I’ve been stitched up by my OLD Mother in law (Verity)…..!!!!
It was a great show, laughed lots. Would definitely recommend you go and see him if you get the chance.
PS. He was better than Al Murray!!
Martin & Jo
23.11.2009 at 06:58Great show packed full of big belly laughs. Thanks for the pizza. Same time next year???

26.11.2009 at 06:38It looks like the whole audience has left a comment, such was the rapport! Has this been known before, Adam??!
Come back soon, and invite us all again. x

28.11.2009 at 07:56We’re jealous – we thought we had a brilliant time watching you in Didcot, but we didn’t get pizza 🙁
Still – we had a good night and I’m still wearing the t-shirt x
